Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha
Terrain: Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a LandAfrica representative will welcome you and provide a private transfer to Arusha, taking around 45–60 minutes. Enjoy your first views of Tanzania’s beautiful scenery and local surroundings before arriving at your lodge. Settle in, relax after your journey, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha to Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Terrain: After breakfast in Arusha, drive 3–4 hours to Londorossi Gate, passing through rural villages and scenic Tanzanian landscapes. Complete the park registration before continuing to the Lemosho Route trailhead, where you’ll have lunch before starting the trek.
The first hike takes you into Kilimanjaro’s rainforest, surrounded by towering trees and rich vegetation, with opportunities to spot monkeys and birdlife. After 2–3 hours of trekking, arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Terrain: After breakfast at Mti Mkubwa Camp, continue your Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route trek as the rainforest gives way to open heath and moorland. Walk through rolling highland terrain featuring heather, grasses, volcanic rocks, and small streams while gradually gaining elevation.
As the landscape opens up, enjoy expansive mountain views and, weather permitting, your first sight of Kibo Peak. After approximately 5–6 hours of trekking, arrive at Shira 1 Camp for a hot lunch, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Terrain: After breakfast at Shira 1 Camp, continue across the spectacular Shira Plateau, enjoying a relatively gentle trek through open highland scenery. The trail passes volcanic rocks, sparse vegetation, and expansive landscapes, with impressive views of Kibo Peak on clear days.
After around 3–4 hours of trekking, reach Shira 2 Camp for a hot lunch and time to relax. Later, enjoy dinner and settle in for an overnight stay as you prepare for the next stage of your Kilimanjaro climb.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
Terrain: After breakfast at Shira 2 Camp, ascend through the high-altitude moorland toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,600 metres. This climb-high, descend-low section is an important part of Kilimanjaro acclimatization and offers spectacular volcanic scenery.
After lunch, descend into the Barranco Valley, where the landscape changes dramatically with unique high-altitude vegetation and rugged terrain. Reach Barranco Camp, located beneath the impressive Barranco Wall, for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 6: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
Terrain: After breakfast at Barranco Camp, descend briefly into a ravine before taking on the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep in appearance, the climb is non-technical and rewards you with stunning views across the mountain landscape, with Kibo Peak towering ahead.
Continue along a scenic trail of ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp, gradually gaining altitude while supporting acclimatization. After approximately 4–5 hours of trekking, arrive at camp for a hot lunch, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Terrain: After breakfast at Karanga Camp, continue ascending toward Barafu Camp, entering the stark alpine zone of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail becomes increasingly rocky and exposed, with impressive views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding valleys.
After about 3–4 hours of trekking, reach Barafu Camp and settle in for a well-earned rest. Enjoy an early dinner, prepare your equipment for the Kilimanjaro summit climb, and get some sleep before the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Terrain: Begin your Kilimanjaro summit day around midnight after a light snack and hot tea. Trek through the darkness toward Stella Point, gradually ascending over steep, cold terrain as the first light of dawn appears above the crater rim.
Continue along the crater edge to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, and celebrate this incredible achievement with panoramic views across Kilimanjaro. Descend to Barafu Camp for a short break and lunch before continuing downhill to Mweka Camp. Enjoy dinner and a well-earned overnight rest after this challenging summit experience.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Arusha
Terrain: After breakfast at Mweka Camp, begin the final descent through Kilimanjaro National Park’s rainforest, enjoying the lush surroundings as you make your way toward Mweka Gate. After approximately 3–4 hours, reach the gate and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate to mark your achievement.
From Mweka Gate, transfer back to Arusha for around 2 hours. Check into your lodge, relax, and celebrate the successful completion of your 8-day Lemosho Route trek with LandAfrica.

Day 10: Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport
Terrain: After breakfast in Arusha, enjoy a smooth 45–60 minute transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Take in your final views of Tanzania and reflect on your unforgettable Mount Kilimanjaro adventure with LandAfrica before your departure.
