Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha
Description: Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by a LandAfrica representative and driven to Arusha, Tanzania’s gateway to the country’s famous safari destinations and Mount Kilimanjaro. The transfer takes approximately 45–60 minutes, offering your first views of the surrounding scenery, countryside, and everyday Tanzanian life. After reaching your lodge, take some time to unwind and recover from your journey before enjoying dinner and a comfortable overnight stay in Arusha.
Day 2: Arusha to Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Description: After breakfast in Arusha, we set off towards Londorossi Gate, a drive of about 3 to 4 hours through changing landscapes and local villages. On arrival, we complete the registration formalities before continuing by vehicle to the trailhead. Here, we enjoy a hot lunch before beginning the trek. The walk is gentle, taking us through dense rainforest with tall trees, moss, and chances of seeing monkeys and birdlife along the way. The hike takes about 2 to 3 hours. On arrival at Mti Mkubwa Camp, we settle in, enjoy dinner, and overnight.
Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Dscription: After breakfast in Arusha, begin your Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route adventure with a scenic 3–4 hour drive to Londorossi Gate. The journey passes through rural communities, farmland, and changing scenery before reaching the park entrance, where trekking permits and registration are completed. From the gate, continue by vehicle to the starting point and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch before setting out on foot.
The first hiking section leads into Kilimanjaro’s lush montane rainforest, surrounded by towering trees, hanging moss, and rich vegetation. Keep an eye out for native monkeys, colourful birds, and other forest wildlife as you follow the peaceful trail toward Mti Mkubwa Camp. The trek takes approximately 2–3 hours and provides a gentle introduction to the mountain. Arrive at camp, settle into your accommodation, enjoy dinner, and rest overnight beneath the slopes of Kilimanjaro.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Description: After breakfast at Shira 1 Camp, continue your Kilimanjaro trekking adventure across the spectacular Shira Plateau. This high-altitude section of the Lemosho Route features an expansive volcanic landscape, open terrain, and relatively gentle walking, making it a great opportunity to enjoy the mountain’s dramatic surroundings at a comfortable rhythm.
The trail winds across the plateau with scattered vegetation, volcanic rocks, and sweeping views in every direction. With favourable weather, Kibo Peak appears increasingly prominent ahead, creating an unforgettable backdrop as you make your way across the highlands.
After around 3–4 hours on the trail, reach Shira 2 Camp, where you’ll have a warm lunch followed by time to relax and take in the remarkable scenery. Later, enjoy dinner and spend the night at camp as you prepare for the next stage of your Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route climb.
Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
Description: After breakfast at Shira 2 Camp, ascend through open moorland toward Lava Tower, reaching the highest point of the day at around 4,600m. This climb-and-descend routine supports gradual Kilimanjaro acclimatization and prepares you for higher elevations.
After lunch, descend for 2–3 hours into the scenic Barranco Valley, surrounded by striking volcanic landscapes and unique high-altitude vegetation. Arrive at Barranco Camp, located beneath the impressive Barranco Wall, for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 6: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Description: After breakfast at Barranco Camp, tackle the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most memorable sections of the Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route. With guidance from your experienced trekking crew, you’ll climb steadily to the top and enjoy spectacular views across the valley towards Kibo Peak.
Continue through the high-altitude ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp for a hot lunch before heading onward to Barafu Camp. As the trail climbs higher, the vegetation gives way to rugged volcanic terrain. Arrive at camp, rest, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare for your Kilimanjaro summit attempt.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Description: Today marks the Kilimanjaro summit attempt, beginning around midnight after a light snack and hot tea. Trek through the darkness under headlamps, gradually ascending through the cold, steep terrain toward Stella Point on the crater rim. As dawn breaks, enjoy spectacular views across the mountain before continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
After celebrating at the summit, descend to Barafu Camp for lunch and a short recovery break. Continue downhill through the rugged landscape to Mweka Camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner and a well-deserved overnight rest after an unforgettable day on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Arusha
Description: After breakfast at Mweka Camp, begin the final stage of your Mount Kilimanjaro trek, descending through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The trail may be damp and slippery in places, so take a comfortable pace while enjoying the changing scenery. After approximately 3–4 hours, reach the gate and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate as a memorable reward for your achievement.
From Mweka Gate, transfer back to Arusha, a journey of around 2 hours. Check into your lodge, unwind, and celebrate the successful completion of your Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro climb over dinner.
Day 9: Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport
