Tanzania is a great ornithological destination, the avifauna of Tanzania included a total of 1114 confirmed species as of August 2019. Of them, 30 are endemic, 44 are accidental, and four have been introduced by humans. This is the third-highest in Africa, representing more than 10% of the global avifauna.

Day 1 Dar es Salaam to Tanga

Arrives at JNIA (DAR) and catches a connection flight to Tanga. Flight-schedule: Dar ETD 14:00h – Tanga ETA 16:05h On arrival at Tanga you will have lunch and short briefing from our Birding Guide and then transfer to Fish Eagle Point.

DAY 2 - DAY 3: Birding at Fish Eagle Point

After an early breakfast, start birding on the coast.
Target Birds
Mangrove Kingfisher, Green Tinkerbird, Grey Sunbird, Bearded Scrub-Robin, just possible Golden Palm Weaver, Fire-fronted Bishop - now considered highly unlikely, Mombasa Woodpecker

Accomodation: Fish Eagle Point

DAY 4: Transfer to Amani Forest Reserve.

Transfer to Tanga at about midday and drive on to Amani forest reserve.
    Target Birds:
Kretschmer´s Longbill, Sharpe´s Akalat, Long-billed Forest Warbler (Tailorbird), Red-tailed Ant-Thrush, Fischer´s Turaco, Little Shelley´s Greenbul, Banded Green, Amani Sunbird, Moustached Tinkerbird, Short-tailed Batis, Uluguru Violet-backed Sunbird, Waller´s, Kenrick´s Starling, Mombasa Woodpecker, Usambara Hyliota, Little Yellow Flycatcher, Yellow-streaked, Fischer´s and Placid Greenbul.

DAY 5: Drive to Ushongo.

Full morning birding at Amani forest reserve and later drive to Ushongo beach resort.
Target birds
Mangrove Kingfisher, Bronze-winged Courser, Speckle-throated Woodpecker, Brown-necked Parrot, Northern Brownbul, Bearded Scrub-robin, Black-throated Wattle-eye, Thick-billed Cuckoo, Golden Pipit Accommodation: (HB)

DAY 6: Saadani National Park

After an African breakfast, start driving to Saadani National Park Saadani National Park is special because of its unique location on the Indian Ocean. It is the only wildlife reserve one can visit in East Africa that doubles as a beach destination. It offers a unique combination of both marine and mainland flora and fauna in a culturally fascinating setting.
The beaches at Saadani are the only places North of Dar es Salaam where sea turtles still go to lay their eggs. The most common species is the Green turtle, the largest of the hard-shelled sea turtles. This is a very special location that contributes to the conservation of these reptiles.
Salt tolerant tidal forests provide a resting and feeding place for many bird species, bats, monkeys, hippos and reptiles, making Saadani home to a plethora of animal species.

DAY 7: Drive to Morogoro

After breakfast depart from Saadani NP HQ we drive to the Bagamoyo road exit and on to Wami bridge on the main Dar - Segera Highway then on to Morogoro.

  Bohm’s Bee-eater, Speckle-throated Woodpecker, Ruvu Weaver (E - historically lost since discovery in 1907 within Golden/Golden Palm box), Golden Pipit Accomodation: Arc Hotel

DAY 8-10: Bunduki Campsite

Early breakfast heading to Morogoro after getting forest permit, we drive to campsite at Bunduki with our birding guide  
  Target birds
 Placid Greenbul, Uluguru Greenbul, Winifred’s Warbler, (likely split) - Uluguru Apalis, Mountain Yellow Warbler, Black-throated Wattle-eye, Loveridge’s Sunbird, Sharp-tailed Starling, Bertram’s Weaver, Purple Indigobird (parasitises Jameson’s Firefinch ...), Green Twinspot

Accomodation: Bunduki Campsite

DAY 11: Drive to Iringa

Early morning breakfast then depart to Iringa, and onwards to River Valley Campsite near Ruaha NP for o/n, stopping along the road in the Miombo woodland    Target birds  African Barred Owlet, Lesser Moorhen, Livingstone’s Flycatcher

DAY 12: Fly to Dar and Catch a flight back home

This day marks the last day of the amazing southern and western birding adventure. Fly out of Iringa with a scheduled afternoon flight operated to Dar Es Salaam and finally home
